WORLD

Two decades ago, Planet M was the stage for a terrible war, one which exposed the greed and selfishness of mankind. This war, between the Laconian Federation, the Anzier Empire, and the lost nation of Malaga, was one veiled in secrecy, its details carefully masked from the public. It remains a popular subject of discussion amongst scholars, due to the unusual circumstances surrounding it. It all began when Malaga, then only a small developing nation, discovered a massive Etherium Nexus - a wellspring of pure energy - buried beneath its capital city.

It is not difficult to imagine how and why the armies of Laconia and Anzier found themselves on the icy shores on that fateful day, and it was a given that Malaga would fight to protect its claim. What wasn't expected, however, was the involvement of the Renazent Corporation, an international conglomerate working in the area to excavate ancient Phaedrian artifacts. The forces of Laconia and Anzier were surprised to find the Malagans equipped with weaponry far more advanced than even their own. After brief "negotiations", which were little more than all three groups imposing their demands, the three nations became engaged in full-scale war.

At the height of the conflict, a new threat suddenly emerged. An entity known as Ziasetht, believed to have come to Planet M from another dimension, emerged from the caverns beneath Malaga, and laid siege to the city. Caught completely off guard, and with its soldiers already deployed, the once proud nation fell in a matter of hours. Many of its people were killed or unaccounted for, its ruined capital city swallowed by the icy plains upon which it was built. Before Ziasetht could turn its appetite for destruction against the rest of the world, however, a coalition of soldiers from all three nations - led by the renowned Knight Nazarus - managed to seal Ziasetht away inside the Dreaming.

As with many of the details circling the Etherium Wars, Ziasetht’s very existence is the subject of intense debate, skeptics dismissing it as mere legend. It was soon after the alleged sealing, however, that the conflict came to an abrupt end. A cease-fire was called and tentative new alliances between nations were formed. However, the decisions made during the past continue to overshadow the present, as some wounds are slow to close...
